As populations age and the rates of chronic diseases increase, more individuals are finding themselves in need of comprehensive rehabilitation programs to regain strength, mobility, and independence. Nurses play a pivotal role in these programs, offering essential support that bridges the gap between the patient and the path to recovery. This article looks into the multifaceted contributions of nurses in physical rehabilitation settings and examines how advanced training enhances their capabilities and impact.

The Expanding Role of Nurses in Rehabilitation

Physical rehabilitation services are becoming increasingly crucial as the global population ages. The World Health Organization reports that the proportion of the world’s population over 60 years will nearly double by 2050. This demographic shift, coupled with improved survival rates from severe injuries and chronic conditions like stroke and heart disease, underscores a growing need for skilled rehabilitation services. Nurses are at the forefront of meeting this demand, providing essential care that encompasses more than just basic medical attention; they offer a holistic approach that considers the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of patients.

In rehabilitation settings, nurses undertake a variety of roles ranging from direct patient care to the coordination of therapeutic activities. They are responsible for initial assessments, where they evaluate patients’ functional status and identify rehabilitation goals. Following this, nurses often develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans that are tailored to each patient’s specific needs, working closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to deliver comprehensive care.

Advanced Training and Specialization

The complexity of managing rehabilitation programs requires specialized knowledge and skills that go beyond general nursing training. Specialized areas such as neurology, orthopedics, and geriatric care demand an in-depth understanding of patient mobility, pain management, and long-term recovery processes. Here, advanced training becomes crucial. An RN to MSN online program offers a pathway for registered nurses to gain this expertise while continuing to work in the field. These programs focus on enhancing clinical skills and theoretical knowledge, preparing nurses to tackle the unique challenges of rehabilitation with greater competence and confidence.

The flexibility of online programs allows nurses to study without interrupting their careers, integrating new learning directly into their practice. This is particularly beneficial in rehabilitation, where evidence-based approaches and new technologies constantly transform the way care is delivered. By advancing their education, nurses not only improve their own practice but also contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of rehabilitation programs.

Nurse-Led Rehabilitation Techniques

At the heart of nursing in rehabilitation is the implementation of care plans. Nurses play a critical role in this phase, applying their specialized training to help patients regain function and mobility. For instance, they assist in therapeutic exercises, monitor progress, and make necessary adjustments to care plans based on patient response. This hands-on involvement is crucial for ensuring that rehabilitation goals are met.

Moreover, nurses are instrumental in educating patients and families about the rehabilitation process, setting realistic expectations, and providing emotional support. This educational role is vital as it helps patients understand the purpose of their treatments and the importance of active participation in their recovery. Through effective communication, nurses help foster a positive rehabilitation environment where patients feel motivated and supported.

Technology and Innovation in Rehabilitation

In the realm of physical rehabilitation, technology plays a transformative role, and nurses are at the forefront of integrating these innovations into patient care. Advanced technologies such as wearable devices, virtual reality (VR), and tele-rehabilitation platforms are reshaping how rehabilitation services are delivered. Nurses trained in using these technologies can provide more personalized care and real-time monitoring of patients’ progress. For instance, VR can be used to simulate environments and scenarios that help patients regain motor skills and cognitive functions in a controlled setting, while wearable devices can track physiological data and provide insights into a patient’s recovery trajectory.

Moreover, nursing programs often include training in the latest healthcare technologies, preparing nurses to effectively implement these tools in clinical settings. This education ensures that nurses are not only users of technology but also innovators who can assess the suitability of new tools and adapt them to enhance rehabilitation practices.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

The success of rehabilitation often hinges on the seamless collaboration of multidisciplinary teams. Nurses serve as central figures in this collaborative framework, coordinating care between various specialists such as physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers. Their training in patient assessment and care planning makes them ideal for this role, ensuring that all aspects of a patient’s rehabilitation journey are harmonized and that care goals are met efficiently.

Effective communication is a key aspect of this interdisciplinary approach. Nurses with advanced degrees are particularly well-equipped to lead these teams, as their education includes components of leadership, communication, and team management. Their ability to articulate care plans clearly and concisely, solicit input from colleagues, and integrate diverse perspectives into a cohesive treatment strategy is essential for the holistic rehabilitation of patients.

Challenges in Rehabilitation Nursing

Despite the critical role nurses play in rehabilitation, they face several challenges that can impede the process. One of the primary challenges is patient non-compliance, which can arise from a lack of motivation, pain, or misunderstanding about the recovery process. Additionally, the emotional toll on nurses can be significant, especially when progress is slow or outcomes are not as expected. Managing these challenges requires not only professional skills but also personal resilience.

Strategies to overcome these challenges include continuous professional development and peer support. Engaging in advanced education programs allows nurses to gain deeper insights into patient behavior and advanced strategies for managing complex cases, which can improve patient compliance and outcomes. Furthermore, building strong support networks with peers can provide emotional sustenance and practical advice, helping nurses navigate the stresses of their roles effectively.

Continuing Education and Career Advancement

For nurses, the journey of professional development does not end with initial certification. The field of rehabilitation is dynamic, with continuous advancements in medical research, techniques, and technologies. Ongoing education is crucial for nurses who wish to stay current and provide the best possible care.

Nurses who attain an MSN are often considered for leadership roles within rehabilitation settings, such as program directors or lead coordinators, where they can influence policy and practice at a higher level. These positions allow them to shape the future of rehabilitation services, ensuring that these programs continue to meet the evolving needs of patients and healthcare systems.

Conclusion

Nurses are indispensable to the field of physical rehabilitation. Their extensive training, coupled with their commitment to patient care, makes them pivotal in delivering effective rehabilitation services. By furthering their education, nurses enhance their capabilities, ensuring they are equipped to meet the challenges of modern healthcare delivery. As the demand for rehabilitation services grows, the role of skilled, educated nurses will only become more critical. Embracing continuous education and interdisciplinary collaboration, nurses can lead the charge in advancing rehabilitation practices, ultimately improving outcomes for patients across the globe.

Navigating college life can be challenging, especially for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The transition from high school to college often brings increased responsibilities and demands, which can be overwhelming for those who struggle with focus and organization. Academic environments are less structured and often require self-directed learning, which can increase difficulties. Additionally, social and extracurricular pressures may contribute to stress. However, with the right strategies and support systems in place, students with ADHD can thrive academically and manage their coursework.

Understanding ADHD and Its Impact on Studying

ADHD affects a person’s ability to focus, stay organized, and manage time effectively. For college students, this can translate into difficulties with completing assignments, following through on tasks, and maintaining a consistent study routine. Challenges may also include trouble prioritizing tasks and managing deadlines. The symptoms of ADHD—such as inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity—can create unique challenges in an academic setting. Understanding how these symptoms manifest can help students tailor their study habits and create an environment conducive to learning.

Creating a Structured Study Environment

One of the most effective ways to manage ADHD symptoms is by creating a structured study environment. A dedicated study space without distractions can significantly improve focus and productivity. Choose a quiet area with minimal interruptions, and make sure the area is well-organized. Keep study materials, such as textbooks and notebooks, within reach and maintain a clean workspace to minimize visual distractions. Establishing a consistent study schedule can also help reinforce routine and build effective study habits.

Utilizing Time Management Techniques

Time management is crucial for students with ADHD because it helps with breaking down tasks into manageable chunks and avoiding procrastination. One effective technique is the Pomodoro Technique, which involves studying in short, focused intervals—typically 25 minutes—followed by a brief break. This method helps maintain concentration and prevents burnout. In addition, using planners or digital calendar apps can aid in organizing assignments, deadlines, and study sessions. Setting specific, achievable goals for each study period can also enhance motivation and track progress.

Implementing Active Learning Strategies

Active learning techniques can be particularly beneficial for students with ADHD because they involve dynamically engaging with the material. Techniques such as summarizing information in your own words, teaching concepts to someone else, or creating visual aids like mind maps can reinforce understanding and retention. Incorporating movement, like pacing while studying or using interactive tools, can further help maintain focus. Another effective strategy is using mnemonic devices and memory aids to remember key concepts and details. These methods not only make studying more interactive but also cater to various learning styles, which can be advantageous for students with ADHD.

Leveraging ADHD Resources for Available College Students

Numerous ADHD resources for college students can provide additional support and strategies. Campus disability services often offer accommodations such as extended test-taking time or note-taking assistance. Furthermore, counseling services can provide personalized strategies and coping mechanisms tailored to individual needs. Joining study groups or seeking peer support can also be beneficial because interacting with others can offer new perspectives and shared experiences. Exploring these resources can help students with ADHD find the support they need to succeed academically.

Developing Effective Study Habits

Developing effective study habits is essential for students with ADHD to stay organized and on track. Creating a study routine that aligns with personal productivity patterns can enhance focus and efficiency. For instance, some students may find studying during peak concentration times, such as early mornings or late evenings, works best for them. Moreover, breaking down larger assignments into smaller, manageable tasks can reduce overwhelm and make it easier to track progress. Regularly reviewing and adjusting study strategies based on what works best can also help maintain effectiveness.

Balancing Study Time with Self-Care

Maintaining a balance between academic responsibilities and self-care is crucial for overall well-being. Students with ADHD may be more susceptible to stress and burnout, making it important to prioritize self-care practices. Incorporating regular exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep into your routine can significantly impact cognitive function and mood. Setting aside time for relaxation and hobbies can also provide a necessary mental break and improve overall productivity. By managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, students with ADHD can better handle academic pressures.

Seeking Professional Help When Needed

Students with ADHD must recognize when they need additional support and seek professional help if needed. Academic counselors, mental health professionals, and ADHD coaches can provide valuable guidance and interventions tailored to individual needs. These professionals can also help in accessing academic accommodations and resources available on campus. Professional help can assist in developing personalized strategies, managing symptoms, and addressing any academic or emotional challenges that may arise. Seeking help is a proactive step towards achieving academic success and maintaining overall well-being.

Conclusion

Successfully managing ADHD in a college setting involves a combination of structured environments, effective study techniques, and personal support. By understanding the unique challenges of ADHD and implementing tailored strategies, students can improve their academic performance and overall college experience. Developing a routine and seeking out appropriate accommodations can further enhance academic success. Embracing a personalized approach, utilizing available resources, and maintaining a focus on self-care can empower students with ADHD to overcome obstacles and achieve their educational goals. With the right tools and support, success is within reach for college students with ADHD.

When people deal with anxiety, it can be crippling, and that’s why it’s vital to learn ways to manage it. Academic anxiety is a rising and wide-scale issue. College is a significant milestone in life, and students should be proud of themselves and the hard work they’ve done to get to that point. Celebration and stress sometimes go hand-in-hand. Change is inevitable, but can be stressful. And navigating the college experience with its plethora of changes–such as making new friends, taking on new courses, and living alone–without the comfort or reliability of family can be stressful. Some stress can actually be advantageous, but constant stress can prevent you from getting work done. It can also have an impact on the way you deal with conflict in the future and your overall health. Academic anxiety is genuine and valid, and if you’re experiencing it, you’re far from alone.

First Steps Toward Success

The two components of test anxiety are emotionality, which involves physical and emotional symptoms, and behavioral and cognitive effects, which come from the vicious cycle of anxiety. This cycle includes a trigger, followed by fear, followed by stress, followed by worry, followed by anxiety, and then it repeats until the cycle is forcibly broken. You can change these symptoms and stop these cycles by changing the way you think, and you can do that by maintaining continuous positive dialogue. Then, you can change how you feel and how things affect you. Finally, you can change your behavior, including your actions and reactions.

What to Avoid

According to The JED Foundation, “Recent surveys show that many students watch TV, scroll through social media, or play video games as a way to cope with school-related stress. In small doses, doing this might give you a much-needed break from studying. But using screens as a distraction (or escape) can worsen your stress, especially when it means that unfinished work piles up.” Therefore, it’s crucial to avoid the overuse of screens. Other addictive entities can protract academic anxiety as well.

It’s important to avoid abusing alcohol or substances. Overusing alcohol or drugs can hinder progress academically, mentally, and physically. Abusing substances can also protract feelings of anxiety or depression. It can also severely distract from the priorities of schoolwork and class attendance, as well as self-care and relationships. These are the things to avoid–not the challenges themselves.

Helpful Tips

  • Don’t avoid challenges, approach them head-on. According to Nicole J. LeBlanc, MA & Luana Marques, PhD, “College is challenging and many students cope by avoiding stressors (skipping class, staying in bed all day). However, we know that avoidance tends to make anxiety worse over time. Instead, practice taking small steps to approach anxiety-provoking situations. If you’re struggling in a class, try emailing the professor for help.” You can also approach people in class if you’re feeling lonely. It’s important to expose yourself to potentially anxiety-provoking situations in order to overcome the anxiety surrounding those situations.
  • Find resources on or near campus. Most college campuses have resources and departments for students in need of support, academically or personally. It’s important to utilize your resources and reach out if you’re struggling. You can also ask advisors to recommend counselors if you need additional support for a mental health issue.
  • Have a self-care regimen. Many students struggle with self-care habits, such as eating healthily, regular physical activity, cleanliness, or proper sleep without the structure of a home environment. However, developing a self-care routine can make a tremendous difference in your mood in and out of school. Meal planning, exercising, proper sleep hygiene, proper general hygiene, and avoiding using your bed for anything other than sleep are helpful hacks for self-care.
  • Discover coping strategies that work for you. It’s important to discover your own best, which involves identifying strengths and weaknesses regarding academic performance. It’s also vital to identify the relationship you see between your body’s reactions and how you prepare for tests or school, when the best time to approach schoolwork is, and identify your preferred learning style. It also involves identifying if you’re intrinsically or extrinsically motivated and how that source of motivation impacts taking tests or your ability to study for tests, as well as identifying changes you can make in the way you prepare for tests that will help you take advantage of your learning style preferences.

Ultimately, test anxiety, procrastination, or any unhealthy habit is a learned response that can be unlearned and broken with time, effort, patience, and determination. There are a multitude of coping mechanisms and grounding techniques to manage academic anxiety, including breaking the cycle of stress and anxiety with practice, avoiding harmful substances and the overuse of screens, facing challenges directly, taking advantage of resources, and developing an effective self-care routine.

Studies show that Americans have become less ambitious at work. Could choosing a career
with a proven pay structure make promotion more appealing? Career.io analyzed the pay
gap between junior-level and senior-level workers around the U.S. to see where ambition
pays off the most.

Sure, you’ve heard of “quiet quitting” and maybe even “quiet ambition” — diligently doing
your job each day with a song in your heart while refusing to “chase achievement for
achievement’s sake,” according to Fortune.

But have you heard of “quietly working your way up to a senior position with more pay and
more inspiring challenges?”

Perhaps not. It hasn’t been so bad to be an entry-level employee lately. Labor shortages
have led to faster wage growth among lower-paid and less-educated workers than the
better-paid and more highly educated. And following the pandemic, some two-thirds of
employees cite their top ambition to be “spending time with my family and friends,” with
“being physically/mentally healthy” a close second, according to one survey.

Still, the wage difference between entry-level and experienced-level workers remains
profound in many regions and industries. To find which jobs, metropolitan areas and states
deliver the greatest rewards to career climbers, we analyzed pay rates across nearly 40,000
U.S. job listings.

Methodology Behind Study

Using figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Modeled Wage Estimates, Career.io
calculated the average increase in hourly pay between ‘entry-level’ and ‘experienced-level’
workers for 39,282 occupation listings across 389 U.S. Metro Areas and every U.S. state.

The team calculated the percentage increase in hourly salary per occupation in each location
before calculating the average increase in hourly salary of all occupations per metropolitan
area and per U.S. state.

Finally, they isolated the occupation in each U.S. state and a selection of U.S. Metro Areas,
which enjoyed the greatest increase (%) in hourly pay from an entry-level role to an
experienced-level role.

The data analysis was completed in April 2024 using the latest available estimate from the
Bureau of Labor Statistics for salaries per occupation by experience level, published in
August 2023.

Vintage garments transport us back to historical moments that led us to these celebrations. Similarly, wins and other legendary moments are remembered and celebrated in the sports world. While it may not involve food or decoration, it does involve vintage sportswear.

Sportspersons, their families, and fans across the world, irrespective of the country they belong to, connect when it comes to sports. The conventional forms of student accommodation, including dormitories or apartments, are evolving. Co-living spaces have been identified as the latest and most viable solution to the challenges of affordability, community, and proximity that students face today. These living arrangements not only offer shelter but also promote an environment that is suitable for learning and development. Here is a brief look at some of the top co-living spaces suitable for students and why the trend is becoming popular.

The Collective

One of the most popular options in the co-living space market is The Collective with spaces in London, New York, and Berlin. The Collective has an elegant and contemporary look and offers all the facilities that students may require. The spaces range from communal areas to study rooms, gyms, and an event schedule that is always filled.

The Collective provides students with a welcoming environment as they live there. Social activities, meetings, and gatherings make the community members bond and interact with each other as they work towards achieving set goals. But the premium experience does not come cheap and getting a spot may be a bit difficult due to the high demand. However, due to quality amenities and the strong sense of community in The Collective, many students still prefer to live here.

Common

Another major co-living operator is Common, located in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington D. C. One of the selling points of Common is that the company provides its residents with furnished living spaces, which come with amenities such as internet and cleaning services. This convenient lifestyle is perfect for students who want a carefree life.

Common also focuses on the creation of community among its residents. In an organized manner, some events and areas are created to facilitate interaction between the students and this makes it easy for the students to meet and interact. Another advantage is the flexible lease terms, which help students pledge their allegiance without being tied down to a lengthy contract. However, this convenience and community orientation has its downside; the cost is relatively high and the availability can be rather scarce in some areas.

Sociable Living

Sociable Living is another platform that provides co-living spaces in some large cities including Toronto, Miami, and New York. Sociable Living offers well-equipped apartments with all bills included in the rent and many facilities and services of the community. This particular co-living space focuses on low-cost living, making it suitable for students and other young people.

Perhaps the greatest strength of Sociable Living is the emphasis on forming a community that is both caring and stimulating. Various activities take place within the environment, which ensures that the students get to interact with people within the community thus getting friends and peers. However, the network of properties is not as vast as other co-living companies, and the quality can be inconsistent thus it is advisable to research the properties and try to visit before renting if possible.

Student.com

For students in search of international opportunities, Student.com offers an impressive selection of properties that are available for lease and comes with a convenient website for booking. It mainly targets students and provides housing services throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. Through the platform, the students can easily search and acquire accommodation that suits their requirements.

In this regard, Student.com can be viewed as a clear leader due to the large number of choices it provides. Students can find different types of properties for a living, from cheap ones to more expensive ones to suit the individual’s needs and financial capability. However, the quality and cost of properties may differ greatly, especially the high-demand cities; therefore, students are advised to take time and crosscheck on the properties they intend to rent as well as read reviews from other students.

Why Co-Living is Great for Students

Co-living spaces have multiple benefits which make them suitable for students. First of all, the all-inclusive pricing model makes it easier to plan the expenses since rent embraces utilities and other services. The other major advantage of this form of financial planning is that it helps students who often have limited funds. Secondly, the co-living spaces promote togetherness due to shared areas and scheduled activities, thus creating a friendly atmosphere that can complement the college experience.

Also, the provision of furnished rooms and all-inclusive charges make the process of establishing a new home easier during college life. Such amenities also include Wi-Fi, study rooms, and other recreational facilities to meet academic needs. The community focus also implies that students may likely meet people to study with or make friends with, thus making the environment conducive to learning and socialization.

Considerations

However, it is crucial to consider the following when selecting a co-living space, even with the mentioned advantages. Although the general rates tend to be cheaper compared to the regular rental options, prices may still be steep in some cities. This is because one needs to compare the services and the community aspects to the cost to establish whether it meets the desired budget.

One more factor to be taken into consideration is privacy. Co-living spaces imply the sharing of some zones, which results in the occupants having relatively smaller spaces than in private apartments. Self-oriented students may have to consider the advantages of community living over the possibility of having little time alone.

Finally, there is the issue of the quality of co-living spaces which can be quite poor in some cases. One has to take his/her time, compare, and where possible, inspect the properties before making a final decision. This due diligence helps make sure that the space selected is what you need and want concerning comfort, services, and company.

Conclusion

Co-living spaces represent a modern, community-focused alternative to traditional student housing. By offering a blend of convenience, community, and comfort, these spaces cater to the evolving needs of students. As this trend continues to grow, more students are likely to embrace the co-living lifestyle, making it a staple of the college experience in the years to come. Whether it’s the vibrant community at The Collective, the convenience of Common, or the affordability of HubHaus, there’s a co-living option to suit every student’s needs.

Few industries offer more benefits, greater perks, higher compensation, and better job
security than Big Tech.

But landing a job in tech is notoriously difficult. Those lucky enough to secure an interview
face complex technical questions, and acceptance rates are lower than those of the most
selective Ivy League schools.

But how do Big Tech companies compare in the eyes of interviewees? Does Google hold
easier job interviews than Apple?

Resume.io analyzed over 100,000 interview reviews across 14 tech giants to shed light on
the differences.

Methodology Behind Study

This study explores the quality of the interview experience and interview difficulty at some of
the largest technology companies. They focused on 13 Tech Giants: Alphabet, Amazon,
Apple, Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Tesla, Oracle, Netflix, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel and
Uber.

They analyzed the Glassdoor “interviews” page for each Tech Giant, focusing on 2024
interview reviews from United States applicants.
They recorded:

  • The Interview “Difficulty” Ratings = Easy, Average or Difficult
  • The Interview “Experience” ratings = Negative, Neutral or Positive

In order to calculate the Tech Giants where U.S. interviewees had the hardest/easiest and
best/worst experiences in 2024, they converted the ratings to a scoring system and calculated
an average out of 5 for both metrics.

We repeated this process for all roles with at least 10 reviews for each Tech Giant to
calculate the hardest/easiest and best/worst role to interview for at each company. This
includes data across all years and applicants worldwide.

Findings

This data analysis was conducted in April 2024.

College is a time for personal growth and exploration. You’re able to dive deep into a subject of your choosing and will be exposed to plenty of new, exciting ideas along the way.

Completing a degree can help you meet new people and make memories that will last a lifetime, too. You can join outdoor programs, sign up for clubs at your university, and spend the breaks between semesters partying with friends or volunteering for charitable causes.

However, college isn’t without its risks. As a student, you may pick up a few unhealthy habits like burning the midnight candle, abusing caffeine, or eating high-calorie, unhealthy foods. While this may work in the short term, it can have a lasting negative impact on your health if you fail to address unhealthy habits soon.

Screen Time

Gone are the days of textbooks and physical papers. Nowadays, as a college student, you’ll complete a large portion of your tuition online via e-learning portals that coincide with your classroom activities. While this is much more convenient than having to print off papers and carry heavy textbooks, it will cause your screen time to increase dramatically over the course of a semester. Unfortunately, too much screen time can cause issues like:

  • Disrupted circadian rhythm (meaning you may not get enough sleep)
  • Slows your metabolism (leading to unwanted weight gain)
  • Causes muscle atrophy and cardiovascular issues
  • Increases your risk of anxiety or depression

Put simply, all that screen time can add up and diminish your quality of life. However, counteracting high screen time can be tricky if you’re taking a full course load and need to stay on top of your studies. Rather than letting screens rule your life, try taking positive steps like:

  • Setting time limits on devices
  • Pursue hobbies that take you away from your phone or laptop
  • Take regular breaks from the screen if you notice that your usage is out of control

Cutting down your screen time can greatly improve your quality of life and help you make healthier lifestyle choices that support your long-term health and wellness.

Lifestyle Choices

Your college years are supposed to represent a time of growth and maturation that will serve you well in the years to come. However, many students actually develop unhealthy habits that undermine their health. Some of the most common unhealthy habits include:

  • Poor Sleep: Failing to get 8-10 hours of rest will impair your concentration and undermine your long-term health.
  • Diet: As a college student, you’re likely eating on a budget. However, that doesn’t mean you should binge eat cheap, unhealthy foods like pizza, burgers, and other fast foods.
  • Alcohol Abuse: Drinking to excess impairs your health and undermines your executive functioning. This can lead to overeating unhealthy foods and will certainly interfere with your academic progress.
  • Sedentary Studies: Sitting and studying for prolonged periods is necessary for your health. However, you still need to get up and move if you want to stay healthy and avoid chronic conditions associated with inactivity.

Take proactive steps to protect your health and form better habits by getting enough sleep and eating a balanced, budget-friendly diet. Remember to break up those intense study sessions with plenty of walking, too, as most people need around 10,000 steps per day to remain healthy and happy.

Stress and Self-Esteem

Stress has become an epidemic for college students. Today, millions of students are experiencing heightened stress due to factors like global conflict and uncertainty about the future. This, in addition to typical stressors like coursework and tests, can put a real strain on people’s well-being and may undermine your academic progress.

You may also experience heightened stress and lower self-esteem due to increased social pressure while living on campus. This can be particularly perilous if you spend a lot of time connecting with friends on social media. While your social media account may grow quickly while at university, the harmful effects of social media misuse include:

  • Pressure to lose weight and fit an unrealistic body image
  • Cyberbullying
  • Distortion of features due to filters
  • Diminishing self-esteem due to constant comparison to others

Take control of your stress and boost your self-esteem by avoiding social media accounts that diminish your confidence or promote unrealistic standards. Reducing the amount of time you spend on social media can help you partake in stress-busting activities like:

  • Engaging in regular exercise
  • Utilizing mindfulness techniques
  • Speaking to a therapist who can help you improve your mood
  • Creating a schedule to improve your time management

Conclusion

College is a defining period of your life. You’ll make plenty of new friends and will learn important life lessons that serve you well for years to come. However, for college to be a success, you’ll need to sidestep potential health hazards like developing unhealthy routines or abusing alcohol. Foregrounding your health and wellness will improve your academic progress, too, as you’re sure to perform better when you’re well-rested and eat a healthy, balanced diet.
